Well, I don't think they have done that before. Only one long flashback in the episode. At first I wasn't sure if it was pre- or post-crash, as Michael was in an accident before.
I am a little unsure about the timing, though. Is one month enough time for all that to happen? This is what I was able to put together:
Ben showed Jack a newspaper from the mainland when they first took him hostage. The date was Nov. 29. Michael had just been given a boat before that. So Michael and Walt left about a day or two before that. Desmond called Penny on Dec. 24. So that makes it about 4 weeks for Michael to get Walt home, feel suicidal, recover from the car crash, get on a boat, get out to the area of the island, and wait while Naomi parachutes onto the island, punctures a lung, and heals from that (OK, she healed fast).
I am not surprised that Mr. Friendly told Michael that Widmore put the decoy plane out there. I still don't know if it was Widmore, or Ben.
Ben sure does like lists, doesn't he?
I hope Danielle is not dead. It seemed that she and Alex were somewhat minor characters, but the way they ended the episode, with Karl and Danielle being shot, and Alex not sure if she is in danger, it looks like she may take on some importance soon.
Libby: Ghost, or Michael's guilt? Miles knew Kevin wasn't Michael's real name. Did a ghost tell him? Did I miss any subtle clues?

Question...who were the "innocent people on the boat" that Ben said he didn't want the bomb to kill? If Miles does talk to ghosts, and he talked to Libby, one would think there must be a hundred ghosts on that island speaking to him.
Do you really think he cared about any "Innocent" people on the boat. That was just a line for Michael. He just wanted that list of names. He needs to know more about his enemies. And getting Michael as an agent for him was a nice bonus, too.
When Miles was talking to Michael, he wasn't on the island yet, so it wouldn't have been Libby. Just wondering whether he knew who Michael was, or was just guessing that Kevin Johnson was an alias.
Wow. Another one that delivers. I was pretty sure that the episode was a flash forward when he pinned the suicide note on his jacket.
As far as Ben goes, we haven't seen any evidence of him killing any of the survivors. He is accurate in stating the Michael has done the killing. In fact, the only people Ben has ordered killed were the others on the Looking Glass. I'd love to know who they get their information from when they get these lists?
I seems like Miles has to go to the ghosts for them to talk to him, so any ghosts that were on the boat would have nothing to do with Michael. I think he was just guessing.
When Ben sent Danielle, Russo (sp), and the dip$hit kid off I suspected it was to get rid of the boy- to ensure that Danielle doesn't get pregnant. However, am not sure now that Russo was shot too.
The scenes for the April episode promise we find out how/why the Oceanic 6 get off the island (the faces that flashed were Aaron, Kate, Hurley, Sayed, Jack, & Sun) which seems to indicate that Jin dies before leaving the island (on the freighter?). I've gotta believe Claire would never leave Aaron if she were alive...
This is getting way too long...chat again in April (when BSG is back on too!)
Yeah, I wasn't sure at first whether it was a flash forward or back. I didn't catch everything Michael's mom said to him. Why is she so pissed and why won't/can't he tell her the truth about crashing and the island?
More questions: why would Widmore want to kill everyone on the island? Michael has agreed to kill everyone, including himself, on the boat because he feels guilty about killing the two women and believes that will save the survivors of the crash? Maybe it was the pain pills I took that night, but I was quite confused by the end of the episode.
Roy, how the hell do you remember so much detail? Like the date on a newspaper how many seasons ago?! You bring up a good point about the improbability of the timing. I sure can't think of any theories about that, though.
Beck, couldn't the innocent people on the boat be some of the crew, like George, the communication's office, who aren't aware of the purpose of the boat? Although I don't dispute that Ben doesn't care much about anyone else.
Do you suppose there's any significance to the fact the name of the boat was half covered up when Michael boarded it in port?
Another thing I missed hearing: I think it was either Ben or Mr. Friendly who said to Michael: The ________ won't let him kill himself. What word did I miss? I'm guessing 'island', but want to confirm.
Andy, what's BSG?
Anne, BSG is Battlestar Galactica...another great show, but this is its last season.
Why would Widmore want to kill everyone on the island? At this point we don't know if he does. Just because Ben says he does doesn't make it so. Problem is, Ben very seldom tells outright lies. He uses the truth to manipulate people quite often. If Widmore does want to kill everyone on the island, I would guess that it is because then he would have complete control over the island. He knows there is something special about the island, and he wants it for himself. Getting rid of everyone on the island gets rid of alot of problems.
Michael has agreed to kill everyone, including himself, on the boat because he feels guilty about killing the two women and believes that will save the survivors of the crash? Yes. If he destroys the boat, Widmore will not be able to kill everyone on the island.
Roy, how the hell do you remember so much detail? Like the date on a newspaper how many seasons ago?! I remember general ideas, but the details I get from Wikipedia. They have pages on each episode. I like going there because it gives the details of what happens on the show, without poluting it with subjective theories (which I supply myself). There! Now you know my secret.
The ________ won't let him kill himself. What word did I miss? I'm guessing 'island', but want to confirm. Yes, it was 'island'.
Thanks Roy, for all your clarifications. Since I don't watch previews I didn't realize there won't be another episode until the end of April. Six weeks between episodes. Boo hoo!
I looked at the Wikepedia articles for this season. With all the links, one could spend hours! One thing I noticed. You had said Jin had less than a week to live because the year on his headstone is 2004. Wikepedia says the date on his headstone is the date of the crash. So Jin may be around alot longer than one more week. Less than 7 months, though, given Ji Leon's birth.
Well, see ya'll after episode 9.
