Well, we now know that Sayid is working for Ben voluntarily, although I’m sure we all agree, he was manipulated into his volunteering.
Ben was somewhat surprised when he awoke in the Sahara, wearing a winter coat. I wonder how he got there.
I wonder about Ben’s comment that the rules have been changed. Why were there rules? What were the rules? Surely there wasn’t a rule against killing. Perhaps personal attacks (killing Ben’s daughter) was supposed to be against the rules. Were the rules formalized? Did Widmore recognize that there were rules? Or was Ben just assuming the rules? In any case, killing Alex definitely resulted in a change in Ben’s attitude. He is definitely more aggressive in the future. Are we supposed to sympathize with him now?
Widmore said to Ben that the island was his, and that Ben took it away from him. I was assuming that the island belonged to Hanso, and that the Widmore connection was a bit more subtle. Perhaps Widmore has a stronger connection to the Hanso foundation than I thought.
Is the body of the ship’s Doctor another example of time travel, or were the people on the ship lying to them when they said the Doctor was fine?

Yeah, Roy, Ben was definitely smirking as he walked away from Sayid. How much time do you think has passed between getting off the island and the forward flashes? Time enough for Sayid to have found the woman from his past and married her. This episode make reference to 10/21/05 when Ben asked the hotel clerk what day it was. Didn't Sayid say something about burying his wife and kids? What kids?
Not only was Ben wearing a winter coat, it had the 'Dharma' logo on it. (I took notes, otherwise I'd never remember a detail like that.) When he first landed there, I assumed he got there via time travel the way Desmond went back and forth. Since it happened only once, I think that assumption might be wrong. It obviously wasn't his first trip to Tunisia.
I wonder about those rules, too. So Widmore and Ben are engaging in some game? I got the impression Widmore knew what Ben was talking about and wasn't at all surprised at any of it. I'd like to know what the game is and what the rules are and who all is playing. I can't imagine ever sympathizing with Ben.
I missed Widmore's comment about this island being his. If it was his, why does he have so much trouble finding it?
I don't remember people on the ship saying the Doctor was fine.
I'm really annoyed they changed the time to 9PM! I'll probably stay up and watch it this week anyway. How many episodes are left?
Where's Andy and Becky? I want their 2 cents, too. Thanks again, Roy, for keeping this blog up.
Sorry for the delay in posting. Sayid was definitely manipulated into working for Ben. In fact, that smirk on Ben's face leads me to believe that Ben had Sayid's wife killed and not Widmore. Ben sure is a badass. He kicked the crap out of those Bedouins pretty easily.
Ben was pretty confident that he could negotiate out of that predicament on the island. I think the "rule" was no hurting family. Originally, I thought maybe the rule was the island's rule- but Ben would have broken it when he killed his dad. So, the rule must be between Ben and Widmore.
Just because the Hanso foundation had facilities on the island, that doesn't mean they owned the island. Widmore didn't say he "owned" the island. He said the island was his. This, to me, implies more than physical ownership.
I think the time delay between the boat and the island explains the comment about the doctor being fine.
I am writing this after seeing the next episode and it's killing me not to discuss it!!
Anyway, interestingly Sawyer has decided to break from Locke. I thought for sure that Claire would be dead since Kate has Aaron off the island...
