Wow! I didn't see that comming. Both flash-backs and flash-forwards in the same episode, those devious devils.
Did anyone notice the year on Jin's headstone? 2004. It's Dec. 24, 2004 on the island now. So Jin only has a week to live. Provided, that is, that he really is buried there. Maybe he is still on the island, and the world thinks he is dead. But then, Hurley and Sun were talking like he is dead, so...
Andy, about an hour after I read your theory that Michael was the informant on the boat, I saw a picture of him on the boat, with Sayid and Desmond, so I wasn't completely supprized about that.
So it seems that Ben is behind the fake 815 discovery. That makes sense. Since he wouldn't want the island found, the discovery of the plane would stop any continued search for it. Still, blaming Ben would be convenient, and Widmore isn't really trustworthy either, is he?
Did I miss anything?
Some "behind the scenes" stuff... I read something a while ago about this episode. After filming all the Jin & Sun footage, the film was ruined on transport to LA, and so it all had to be re-shot.

Yeah, I kept wondering why the hell Jin is wasting all that time getting a god-damn panda! No, I couldn't see the date, although I tried to. Glad you caught it. I was appalled when Juliet told Jin about Sun's affair. That was cold-hearted. I'm glad Sun slapped her, although I would've rather seen her punched, hard!
I'll bet Andy yelled aloud when Michael came into view. It's a good feeling to be right, isn't it? Any significance to his being called Kevin Johnson? I presume Michael knows who he is and isn't confused like some of the others on the boat? Do you think he's the one writing the note and unlocking the door? Do you suppose Walt is on the boat too?
What did you make of the "cabin fever" explanation for that woman jumping into the water wrapped in chains?
I watched last week's episode in the hour before last night. I like the explanations they flash at the bottom. One thing I noticed: Penny said she didn't know about the boat, but the guy who died last week said she called frequently and he was instructed not to answer. What's up with that?
Come on, guys. Give me some answers!
You want answers, huh? Ok.
Any significance to his being called Kevin Johnson? None that I know. There was a basketball player named Kevin Johnson, and a ventriloquist. Pretty common name. I can't see that it is significant.
I presume Michael knows who he is and isn't confused like some of the others on the boat? Probably. Do you think he's the one writing the note and unlocking the door? Yes, I do. Do you suppose Walt is on the boat too? I doubt it.
What did you make of the "cabin fever" explanation for that woman jumping into the water wrapped in chains? It must be something to do with being outside whatever field cloaks the island, rather than inside. Otherwise the island inhabitants would be feeling it, too.
Penny said she didn't know about the boat, I think you got that wrong. She said "I know about the island."
Well, that episode certainly delivered! I gotta believe Jin is dead. Sun cried too much for him to be alive and elsewhere. My guess is he dies saving her on the freighter and they bring his body back.
Michael coming back (Anne- I was happy that I got something right for a change!) really leads me to believe that he is the person in the casket...and probably the final member of the Oceanic 6 (I am thinking Aaron and Jin don't count). BTW Anne, Michael clearly knows who he is because he tried to go on deck and then gave Sayed a significant glance...
I missed a bit of the previews because TiVo shut off early...ticked me off.
You're both wrong about Penelope. She said "Boat? What boat...?" Unless she was playing Charlie, she doesn't know anything about the boat.
Anne's question about Walt brings up a good tangent. WTF is he? He's definitely not on the boat. He could be on the island...but his appearance to Locke had the calling card of an apparition...so I think he's dead.
Roy, let's hope that now that Desmond has become "grounded" that he doesn't lose his ability because that will ruin the chance to get everyone back at the end. I really would like to see Charlie and Jin come back to live.
Yeah, I agree: that episode delivered! Definitely worth staying up for, even here in Atlanta where it's an hour later!
If Penny's word were "Boat, what boat" and assuming she's telling the truth, I wonder who she thought she was calling everytime she called the boat and the engineer was instructed (presumably by her father) not to answer. It certainly has occurred to me that she's not trying to find Desmond to be reunited with him, but to do him harm. Has there been any explanation for her turn from hating him (like when he tried to call her from base) to spending 3 years trying to find him? What happened 3 years ago to make her start looking for him?
Andy, interesting idea that Michael is the person in the casket. But then why wouldn't anyone else show up at the funeral? So the final six might be Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Sun and Michael?
Did you notice that Sun expected others to come when Hurley did? I wonder if there's any significance to the fact no one else did. Ok, Sayid's busy being an assasin, Kate's busy raising Aaron (and yeah, I too want to know how she ended up with him and what happened to Claire). But surely Jack would come running to be gallant.
I deliberately don't want the previews, but I can't wait! It feels like they're honing in on so much, that's it hard to imagine stretching it out over another 2 seasons!
BWT, Andy, I finished Stone of Tears and enjoyed it as much as the first. I've already bought 4 other books in the series. I didn't bring the next one with me, though, cuz they're just to damn big to be carrying in suitcases. Another thing to look forward to.
Bye, Guys, and thanks for sharing all your ideas and insights.
About Penny not knowing about the boat. I believe that Charlie had just told her that they were in touch with "Her boat". So dispite the fact that she knows about her fathers search for the island, it is still natural that she asks "Boat? What boat?". She doesn't have a boat out there.
I doubt that Michael is one of the Oceanic 6. He is using an assumed name, so I don't think he will be identifying himself as a survivor.
Anne, I forget if you know what was in the obituary that Jack read. What I know (or think I know) about the person in the casket is based on that, so I don't know if you would consider these theories "spoilers".
Anything that has been in any of the episodes, that I've forgotten or have not caught, I don't consider spoilers at all. I enjoy all your theories, as long as they're based on what's been shown so far and not what's being revealed ahead of times. So, what did Jack read in the obituary? Was that something we got to see?
This is in response to what Andy said about Walt being dead.
The obituary Jack was holding was not seen well on the tv, but on the internet someone posted a picture of it blown-up. In other Lost forums, a full transcript of the obituary was given, possible coming from the makers of Lost.
The obituary was of someone who's name we are unfamiliar with. I don't remember all of what was in it (I could look it up), but one of the things it said was that the person was survived by a teenaged son. So there is no guarentee that it was Michael in the casket, but if it was, then Walt must not be dead.
