Confirmed Dead

I must admit, I am a little confused about tonights revelations. From the flashbacks, we know that the new-comers had their suspisions about the fate of flight 815. But Oceanic 815 was not the reason for their mission. And yet they stumble across the survivors while on their unrelated mission? I was out of the room at the time that Naomi was discussing the team members, so I may have missed something there. Did they say why those people where chosen for the mission? Was it because of their convictions of the 815 crash?

An interesting side note. That polar bear skeleton they found in the dessert, with the collar from Dharma on it. How old was that skeleton? It seems time travel might not be such a stretch on this show. Oh yah, and ghosts are real, too, since Miles was talking to them. So maybe that's what Jacob it?

Interesting that Ben didn't know what the monster was. Did he even know that there was one? He didn't seem to know what Locke was talking about (although he is an expert liar).

Well, Roy, you gotta know I'm confused, too! Ben knows about these people and he says they're after him. I wish I had responded sooner, when the details were fresher in my mind. Maybe I'll watch it again tonight (since there's nothing else on) and contribute a bit more tomorrow.

I did attempt to add more comments last week and kept having problems with my user name and password. I asked why you assume everyone who left the island did so voluntarily?

Who is Miles?

I watched it again last night. To answer your question about Naomi's comments about the team members: she said they weren't qualified to the covert mission. The black guy (who/what is he? - he visited Hurley in the nuthouse) said they each were there for a specific purpose (but didn't clarify)and it was her job to get them in and out safely.

I can answer my own question about Miles: he's the stranger who communes with the dead.

I don't get how each of the four strangers is so secretive about why they're there.

Good idea about Jacob being a ghost. How do you explain Locke being able to hear Jacob, then? I had a thought about Walt being "taller" and obviously older, despite the short lapse of time on the island. Maybe time on the island is different and the "Others" have been there for decades and really should be much older.

I loved the scene where Jack is telling Miles and Dan to put the guns down and when Miles says "How stupid do you think I am" Sayid and Juliet start shooting. The other scene I liked was Locke saying he would've died if he'd still had his kidney where he was shot by Ben.

What was the deal about the cabin - when Hurley said it was "back there" and pretended he was talking about the plane's cabin?

And, where did the cow with the bell around its neck come from? And, if the pilot put the helicopter down OK, why was he all bloodied up?

Well, those are my questions and my two cents. I have to admit I liked the second episode more than the first. I'm looking forward to the third. I read that eight episode were completed before the writer's strike. How many were expected for this season?

Thanks for the update on Naomi's comments.

You asked:

"Good idea about Jacob being a ghost. How do you explain Locke being able to hear Jacob, then?"

Same way Miles was able to hear Naomi. He has the ability. He just doesn't know it yet. Remember that Ben was suprised that Ben had heard Jacob.

"Maybe time on the island is different and the "Others" have been there for decades and really should be much older."

Interesting idea. That may explain why Ben's right-hand-man, Richard Alpert, appears to be the same age as when Ben first met him as a child. Perhaps different parts of the island expirience time differently.

"What was the deal about the cabin - when Hurley said it was "back there" and pretended he was talking about the plane's cabin?"

Well, Hurley was pretty frightened by the cabin. Perhaps he decided he didn't want to go back there. Notice how Locke was suprised that Hurley seemed to know about the cabin?

..."where did the cow with the bell around its neck come from?"

Not sure. I assumed that the others, in addition to having a suburban community there, may have had a farm, too. But then, why did the writers make a point of mentioning it? Perhaps it is significant.

..."if the pilot put the helicopter down OK, why was he all bloodied up?"

The helicopter did have some minor damage, but it was still flyable. It must have been a rough landing.

..."eight episode were completed before the writer's strike. How many were expected for this season?"

This season, as well as the next two, were schedualed to have 16 episodes each. By the way, the writers strike is over, as of today. I don't know what that means for the second half of the season. I doubt if episode 9 will be done by the time episode 8 airs.
